This is a recording of the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra’s 330th Subscription Concert in July 1999. Although recordings of Asahina’s Sibelius No. 2 were made in the 1970s, this is a memorium recording made two years before his death at the age of 91. The entire piece is a profound and peerless piece of music, produced at a leisurely tempo, and combined with the thick sound of the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra, it produces a magnificent Sibelius that can only be described as masculine. The one-point recording by the young Tomosook Esaki is a masterful recording with a brilliant landing.
