In the two years since 2012, SHANTI has released four albums, including a mini-album, in rapid succession, showing his steady progress as an artist and his vigorous creativity. This album is the simplest and most “jazz-like” album to date. The “band sound” that drove the aggressive groove of the previous album has been transformed into a “combo” with KURIYA Makoto as a production partner, playing mainly piano and Fender Rhodes. In order to bring out the depth of SHANTI’s vocal expression, which was once again exposed, the album is once again composed mainly of cover songs. In addition to songs by Bill Evans and Joe Sample, who have been performed live in the past, the album also features the eccentric vocal style of Rickie Lee Jones, Hiromi Ota’s “Cotton Handkerchief,” and the Police’s “I Wish I Could Stare at You. The way he draws together songs that are clearly different from each other, such as “Staring at You” and “I Wish I Was”, into a common approach, shows that Shanti’s even more stoic “vocal mind” aesthetic has been carried through the entire work.Nippon Columbia
