The world’s first compilation CD of Sara Gazarek’s music, a unique collection of her rare arrangements of everything from the Great American Songbook to new standards. Since her debut album “Yours” in 2005, Sara Gazarek has released six albums, including a collaborative effort, and her new album “Distant Storm” (U.S. title: Thirsty Ghost) has been nominated for two Grammy Awards. She has visited Japan more than 15 times and is an integral part of the Japanese scene, and this compilation disc shows the wide range of musicality she has expressed as a singer. At the time of her debut album, she was a follower of Nora Shones, but she has always been in sync with the evolution of contemporary jazz at that time with her unique song selection and high arranging skills, which have kept her at the forefront of the scene, especially in the area of new standards. While focusing on the high level of vocal ability that has made this possible, the content also looks at the unique musicality that has mixed past and present jazz forms.Included will be covers of songs by Brad Meldor, Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake, Billy Joel, Disney movies, etc., a rare Quiet Corner version of the popular song “Blackbird/Bye Bye Bye Blackbird,” and a rare, unreleased live performance with Fred Hersch (p). and Fred Hirsch (p) will also be included. The music will be selected by Toru Watanabe (music critic and author of “Music Bridge: A Comfortable Music Disc Guide”). Sara Gazarek himself will also participate in the music selection.
