Conductor Alberto Zedda sadly passed away in March 2017. He was a scholar of Italian opera and had a deep love for Rossini’s works in particular, and was known for his extensive activities since the 1960s, when he devised numerous ways to promote Rossini’s works and was called one of the leading figures of the “Rossini Renaissance. He has recorded a number of Rossini’s works, and this 2011 performance of the “Stabat Mater” is another excellent one. The orchestra under Zedda’s enthusiastic direction has a mellow sound, and the four soloists, especially Esposito, sing with great depth.Naxos Japan
