Description
The underrated trumpeter/composer, Kenny Dorham(1924-1972) is in superb form on this quartet session recorded in New Jersey on November 13, 1959 with a stellar rhythm section of Tommy Flanagan(piano); Paul Chambers(bass) & Art Taylor(drums). Dorham’s warm and lyrical trumpet playing is heard on eight tracks which include three originals by the leader. Highlights are Dorham’s ‘Lotus Blossom’ and impressive versions of ‘Old Folks’ & ‘Mack The Knife’.
‘Quiet Kenny’ is a beautiful, overlooked album which still sounds fresh over 50 years later.
