Beethoven first met Haydn in 1790 when he was 20 years old. Two years later, Beethoven became one of Haydn’s pupils, but Haydn was also extremely busy and was not able to receive as much instruction as he would have liked, and it is said that he later said, “I never learned anything from Haydn.
