[The Art of Mischa Maisky] This is the second album following “Schubert/Serenade,” a cello arrangement of Brahms’s songs, which was conceived by Maisky himself, who said, “My cello can sing well enough without lyrics. The album includes 11 of Brahms’ 200-odd songs and the cello sonata (originally Violin Sonata No. 1). Maisky performs these works, which are full of Brahms’s characteristic folkloric colors and deep lyricism, in a quiet and shadowy style. This is a commemorative recording of his visit to Japan.
