This ambitious work, commissioned by NASA and written by Terry Riley, a leading composer of minimal music, is a musical realization of the dialogue between earth and space by string quartet and electronic sounds. The composer with whom the Kronos Quartet has been creating works since the 1970s, when it was formed, is Terry Riley, who is considered one of the founders of minimal music. The work is composed in ten independent movements based on ten images (Spacescapes) of the universe. The work is composed of ten independent movements based on ten cosmic images (Spacescapes), and while individual movements have been recorded and performed, performances of the complete work have been rare.
