The French-born, naturalized Swedish violinist Henri Marteau begins his complete string quartet cycle. The first collection includes the String Quartet No. 2 and the “Eight Romances,” one of Marteau’s most famous works. 19 Romances were composed between 1915 and 1917, when Marteau was exiled from Germany and living in Sweden under the patronage of the King of Sweden, and were originally accompanied by a string orchestra. The original is accompanied by a string ensemble. The piano version by Vladiguerov also exists, but this version is accompanied by a string quartet, and the full sound of the strings and Carine Dehe’s beautiful voice are in perfect harmony. The Isasi String Quartet, named after the composer Andrés Isasi, was founded in 2009 and focuses its repertoire on Romantic and contemporary music, with an emphasis on 19th century French works.Naxos Japan
