Hanakiv returns with Interlude, her second album for Gondwana Records, expanding her sound into a richly personal, genre-blurred space where piano—often prepared—sits alongside analogue and electronic textures.
Written as a process of reckoning and recovery, Interlude captures what Hanakiv calls the “in-betweens”: moments where time seems suspended, pain has not fully landed, and hope flickers into view. Murmured vocals, staccato rhythms and fragile harmonies surface across the record, revealing music shaped by reflection rather than resolution.
The album draws strength from its collaborators, including double bassist Milo Fitzpatrick (Portico Quartet), who co-writes key pieces and appears throughout, alongside saxophonist Pille-Rite Rei, cellist Joanna Gutowska, violinist Gabriel Green and drummer PIKE. Together, they help articulate a sound that is restrained yet emotionally charged, serene but never static.
At its core, Interlude is about recognising the difference between stillness and numbness—and finding a way back to feeling. Unpredictable, intimate and quietly bold, it frames vulnerability not as weakness, but as a source of renewed life.
