Hiromi Uehara’s long-awaited new solo piano album, her first in 10 years since “Place to Be” (2009), continues her worldwide career. In addition to seven new songs written under the theme of “color,” the album includes covers of “Blackbird” by The Beatles and “Rhapsody in Blue” by George Gershwin. The performance features an unprecedentedly beautiful piano sound and an overwhelming sense of scale and depth. The album title track “Spectrum” is a number that was performed in the PR video for “NHK BS4K/BS8K” at the end of 2018. Kaleidoscope” and “Once in a Blue Moon” were used as the opening and ending themes for TV Tokyo’s “New Giants of Beauty,” which started in April. Rhapsody in Various Shades of Blue” is a 22-minute, 46-second epic that incorporates “Rhapsody in Blue” with John Coltrane’s “Blue Train” and The Who’s “Behind Blue Eyes”. This work proves that Hiromi Uehara has reached a higher level as a pianist and arranger, and can be said to be “the best work of Hiromi Uehara’s career. First release in Japan.
