Description
These two share a common love for specific styles of music such as Italian library,
Afro-Caribbean grooves, Arabic pop, space-jazz – their list of borrowed influences is
long, but the aforementioned styles already say a lot about Guess What’s identity.
Solar Boats is inspired by ancient Egypt’s iconography, transporting the Pharaohs’
souls to the Otherworld, a concept used, metaphorically, by Guess What to travel and
explore the multidimensional Universe, which we can now call Multiverse. A mythical
saga: The album presents an entertaining collection of short musical pieces,
stemming from various areas of the Cosmos, which the duo Guess What have
collected thanks to their Solar Boat trips alongside the Children In Space – children
who, having grown up in outer-space, navigate through galaxies and nebulae as easily
as we take the bins out or walk to school…they present a groovy, poetic and folkloric
picture of some of the most remote parts of the Cosmos.
Luke Warmcop and Graham Mushnik formed Guess What in in France during 2005
and began assembling samples of experimental percussion and strange organ
themes influenced by jazz, bossa nova, psychedelic soul, rap, and other genres. Two
years later, the duo moved to London and founded the Catapulte Records label with a
long-time collaborator, Antonin Voyant (L’Orchestre du Montplaisant, Derya Yildirim &
Grup Simsek, Phat Dat).
