A collection of symphonies by Joseph Gosek (1734-1829), a pre-classical composer known for his lovely “Gavotte”. Discovered by Rameau as a young man, Gossec was a conductor and a leading figure in French music, writing more than 30 symphonies and a wide range of religious works and operas. This recording of Gosek’s symphonies by Konzerthaus Köln in 2003 is one of the rare recordings that led to the reappraisal of his works. It has been out of print for a while and has been long awaited for reissue. (C)RS
