Description
:
The cantata “Lamentations” is one of Mahler’s earliest works. It is a large-scale work that uses Mahler’s favorite subject matter, such as German folk tales and fairy tales, and adds innovative music in the style of Wagner, who was the most influential musician at the time. This work was revised many times by Mahler himself. Originally composed in three parts, the first part was completely deleted in the first revision. The orchestration has also been updated considerably, but recently the deleted first part is often performed, and the conductor of this work, Kornéus Meister, is following this example. Recorded in 2016.
