Bach, Carl Philipp Emanuel (1714-1788)
:
This collection of religious choral works by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, who will celebrate the 230th anniversary of his death in 2018, was born as the second son of J.S. Bach and is known as a man who inherited the compositional style of his “godfather” Telemann and laid the foundation of classical music rather than his father. A lifelong admirer of his great father, he further developed his father’s cantatas and oratorios, writing 20 Passions, 70 cantatas, and various choral works in the 20 years between his years in Hamburg and his death. This 5-CD set includes one of his greatest works, “The Resurrection and Ascension of Jesus,” and other selected masterpieces, all performed by the virtuoso Hermann Max. All are lively performances with a period approach.Naxos Japan
