This is one of the three Tchaikovsky symphonies that Böhm performed and recorded to commemorate his nomination as Honorary President of the London Symphony Orchestra in 1977. This is an expressionistic performance with a strong sense of classical form and clarity that is very typical of Böhm. The passionate and symphonic grandeur of the last movement in particular makes this a must-hear performance. (C)RS
